The Apologist publishes essay-style articles analysing arts, culture, and history. The title has been inspired by Marc Bloch’s L’Apologie pour L’Histoire.
apologist (noun): someone who speaks or writes in defense of someone or something that is typically controversial, unpopular, or subject to criticism.
The author
Sophia Cohen Galvao (she/her) is a Masters in History student at McMaster University. Originally from Recife, Brazil, Sophia moved to Canada in December 2019 to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of New Brunswick. She worked as a Reporter for The Brunswickan between 2022 and 2024. Her articles have been published on a number of different outlets, including The Media Co-Op, the NB Media Co-Op, and The Silhouette.
